A B O U T
I create softly detailed drawings of wildlife inspired by my love of animals since childhood.
I like to create the gentle and sentient elements of the subject and their beauty
whilst representing a realistic and truthful impression of the animal
as behind the softly drawn style I naturally developed and despite some of the subject’s incredible power
are themes relating to their startling vulnerability and challenges, their futures uncertain, where many may no longer exist
in as few as 10 years’ time.
I choose to limit or not include backgrounds in order to evoke an immediate emotion or feeling based on the animal only, which in turn
challenges me to recreate this through subject alone.

I use professional artist’s-grade pastel pencils on acid-free archival pastelmat.
Teaching myself to use pastels through trial and error I fell in love with their qualities as a drawing medium.
These pastels contain pure pigment to a slightly less ratio of binder with a high permanence value
so drawings will not fade or lose their colour over time, ensuring the artwork's longevity.

In choosing my subject and references I select images which evoke a connection or emotion I hope to replicate to others
whilst considering what I may be able to bring to the photographer’s original capture.
This has resulted in building a portfolio of animal portraits
which I hope convey poignant and sincere artworks both complimenting the work of photographers dedicated to
spending hours upon hours out in the field and to help reinforce their own message and passion for wildlife.

My ongoing goal is to help raise awareness and funding through contributions to the wildlife causes, organisations and
individuals working in the rescue and rehabilitation of animals.
I have so far helped the following organisations:-
- Born Free Foundation - Wildlife SOS - BOS Foundation - Explorers Against Extinction - Africa Wildlife Art -
Wildlife Friends Foundation - Snow Leopard Conservancy - Remembering Wildlife
As someone also living with an incurable cancer I donate a % of some of my original drawings to help cancer research.
All donations are indicated in the Art For Sale details.
Thank you for your interest in my work
